day 17 – pecan blueberry wonder

05 May

I talked Vlad into taking a yoga class with me tonight. And trust me, that’s a lot of talking… I think he has taken about three classes in total now. One of our fellow yoga teachers in training was leading the class, and she did a phenomenal job (hi, Teena!).

We were all mellowed out at the end, and I was also starving. I couldn’t get this salad out of my head for the whole class… So had to make it as soon as we got back.

Blueberry Pecan Salad

  • spinach
  • broccoli
  • 1 apple
  • frozen blueberries
  • pecans
  • apple vinegar
  • olive oil
  • lemon juice

This was too sour with the vinegar though. I think I was too generous. I am going to measure out 1-2 teaspoons next time. This time I poured it straight from the bottle, and it made my lips tingle. :)

Two more food groups: something liquid + something crunchy.

Vlad also was not left out on the salad front:

  • spinach
  • mushrooms
  • broccoli
  • tomato
  • black beans
  • leftover pollock fillets

Leaving you with this video that I finally had a chance to watch today. I love TED (short for Technology, Entertainment, Design) talks, as they are both short and very thought-provoking. In this one, Sam Harris argues that “science can — and should — be an authority on moral issues, shaping human values and setting out what constitutes a good life.”

Vlad doing yoga, props on persuasion skills :) Love the salad, looks nice. I like blue cheese and cranberry combo as well. Have been on the major avocado kick yesterday, had two last night with my spinach chicken. Really want a coffee machine, remembering the smell of coffee at your place…mmm

Hmmm… dried cranberries that you can buy in Bulk Barn? I can see myself trying that, minus the blue cheese obviously. :) Maybe with some sliced almonds. Mmmmm… avocado. Have you tried putting it in a smoothie yet? As for the coffee maker – best purchase I ever made. Love that damn thing.

haha, Rana – I know what you mean! Although it’s really just the apple that required dicing. Everything else I literally threw on top. When I’m hungry though, it takes all of my willpower not to snack on everything in sight. If I do though, I am no longer hungry by the time I get to the meal. I think I may have been guilty of that yesterday, as I was snacking on pecans. They kept disappearing from my hand before I could put them on a salad. :)

yes i have blended avocados, but yet to find the right mixture of ingredients that “hits the spot”. I have pretty much mastered blending greens: spinach and kale…beets omg those were gross, it felt like i was drinking soil diluted with water, i still did it anyway to see if my excrements change colour :)

ummmm, yeah. if you feel like experimenting with colors, try going raw for a week. It’s interesting… INTERESTING, indeed.
